What is the Cash Mob?
We are community members who want to show our commitment and appreciation of independent locally owned businesses here in Van Wert. At a Cash Mob you won't see singing and dancing, but you'll meet new people, discover new products or even new stores, hear the sound of cash registers and experience the sense of community. And you will probably have fun! How does it work? We meet the last Thursday of each month at 5:15. The meeting location changes depending on what store we are Mobbing. You don't know what store we are going to shop at until that day and time. We announce the meeting location in advance, and then announce the store once everyone has arrived. Sometimes we walk to the store, sometimes we drive. We simply ask that each person pledge to spend at least $10 in that store. How are the stores picked? After we Mob the store, you are invited to a nearby restaurant or watering hole to socialize, grab a refreshing drink or a bite to eat. At this After Mob location we have a ballot box where everyone can cast their vote for the business they would pick for next month's Cash Mob. The most number of votes picks the next store. What is the impact? At each Mob, several hundred dollars are spent at one time. But the real impact is people finding new products inside of the store, perhaps even visiting that store for the first time, and telling your friends about the neat things you purchased or what you didn't expect to find. The impact is becoming a new customer of that store, repeat sales for that business, and the word of mouth marketing that is created by this one-time shopping spree. How do I get involved?
