Investing time, dollars, and energy in the revitalization of our Historic Downtown is more important now than ever. Our country's civic and financial leaders are realizing that small businesses hold the potential to make huge impacts in our recovering economy, locally and regionally.
Downtown revitalization is more than just attractive buildings. Communities with healthy downtowns have significantly more job opportunities and wealth. They have higher real estate values, generate more tourism dollars, and are more attractive to potential employers. Neighborhoods with vibrant downtowns attract better teachers for area schools and residents with higher levels of education. A healthy downtown works toward long term solutions by creating jobs, permanent shelter, and a sense of belonging. We work toward our goal of downtown revitalization so that our community can support itself by keeping more money local, retaining and creating jobs, and using existing resources more effectively.

Downtown Development
Who is responsible?
Downtown development is not the sole responsibility of any one entity. It is a goal of the City and County leaders, building owners, private businesses, and community members. There are stakeholders in downtown everywhere you look throughout Van Wert. But just as it is not the governments responsibility, independent businesses cannot do it alone. Main Street Van Wert is a collaborative effort, relying heavily on volunteers and combining the unique skills, vantage points, and funding abilities of both the public and private sector.
