FIVE POINTS OF MAIN STREET

The Main Street Approach offers community-based revitalization initiatives with a practical, adaptable framework for downtown transformation that is easily tailored to local conditions. The Main Street Approach helps communities get started with revitalization, and grows with them over time. Main Street Van Wert uses the traditional 4 Point Approach and includes a fifth ad-hoc committee focused on legacy sites.

economic vitality committee

The Main Street Van Wert Economic Vitality Committee led by Hall Block and Isaac Rager helps strengthen Van Wert's existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying the downtown's economic base. The Main Street program is designed to sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners and recruits compatible new businesses and new economic uses to build a commercial district that responds to today's consumers' needs. We also have the unique challenge to work toward converting unused or underused commercial spaces into economically productive property which also helps boost the profitability of the district.

organization committee

The Main Street Van Wert Organization Committee helps develop and grow the Main Street Non-Profit Organization. Playing a key role in keeping the board, staff, and program-of-work in good shape, the Organization Committee works to attract people and financial support to the organization. One of the most important roles is the continuing education and advocacy of Main Street. Committee members are responsible for managing the logistical aspects of the organization by raising money for projects and administration, managing volunteers by recruiting community members, promoting the downtown program to all members of the community, and developing a good organizational structure.
